The Internet is a relatively unregulated medium on which any person, institution, or group in the world can place information in any format.  It is a global entity which does not fall under the control or governance of any single agency, government, or organization.  The availability of networked information via library terminals does not constitute the Library's endorsement of the content of that information.  Information found on the Internet may or may not be accurate, appropriate, factual, timely, or useful.  If any patron believes that information obtained from the Internet is inaccurate or offensive, the patron may contact the original producer or distributor of said information.

Users must have a valid Mid-York, machine-readable, Library Card, or they must obtain a "one-time only" Guest Pass at the circulation desk in order to use a Library computer.  The Library affirms its traditional role in not censoring or monitoring use of its resources regardless of format.
Privacy:  Patrons should be aware that due to the size and configuration of the Library, privacy for the Internet research or email activities can not be ensured.
Inappropriate Use:  Inappropriate use of Library terminals or Internet access can result in suspension, and  possible cancellation of the privilege to use this resource.  Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to the following:
    > Violation of computer system integrity.
    > Unauthorized tampering with or causing harm to computer hardware or software.
    > Engaging in illegal activities or accessing illegal materials.

Staff support:  Available staff support is limited.  It is the responsibility of the patron to possess or acquire adequate training in computer and online services before using the Library equipment.
Reservations: The Library reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to the Internet, without prior notice or explanation, for reasons of suspected inappropriate use or staff convenience.
